The values of citizenship among rural youth in Gharbia Governorate youth :Descriptive analytical study

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the level of citizenship values among rural youth in Gharbia Governorate and to determine the extent to which statistically significant differences between the mean scores of citizenship values among rural youth, attributed to variations in certain personal and social variables. The study adopted the social survey method using a sample approach, and the field study was conducted in Gharbia Governorate, where Mahalla El-Kubra District was randomly selected. Three villages were then randomly selected from the District's villages. A stratified random sample with proportional distribution, consisting of 367 respondents, was selected. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The study utilized means, standard deviations, the "t-test", ANOVA analysis and Cronbach's alpha coefficient for data analysis, using the SPSS (version 24). The research revealed several results, the level of citizenship values among rural youth were high. As for the dimensions, the average scores of citizenship values among rural youth ranged between (2.28 – 2.43). The dimension of "values of pluralism and acceptance of others" achieved the highest level of citizenship values among rural youth, followed by the dimension of "sense of identity values," while the dimension of "democracy values" recorded the lowest level. There were no significant differences in the mean of citizenship (overall scale) attributed to the difference in gender, marital status, age, and educational level. Based on the results, a set of recommendations was proposed to enhance and develop citizenship values among rural youth.
