The Generation Gap in The Social Behavior of Rural people in Sharkia Governorate

Abstract

This research aims to measure the generational gap in the level of social behavior and its axes between the parents’ generation and their son’s in rural area of Sharkia Governorate. The research depend on the social survey approach using a random sampling method on a sample of (280) individuals (140 parents’ generation, 140 son’s generation) in Beni Mansour villages and Al-Ghafariya villages in Sharkia Governorate. The data was collected using a questionnaire form a personal interviews with rural households during the beginning of April until the end of May 2024. The data was analyzed using: frequencies and percentages, relative weight, Pearson correlation coefficient, the “t” test, stepwise regression coefficien and calculated The generation gap. The research indicated to The level of son’s generation practice of social behavior was medium at 73.9%, while the parents’ generation practice of social behavior was high at 48.6%. also The results showed that there is a gap between parents’ generation and son’s generation in level of social behavior and its axes as it became clear in the level of practicing recreational behavior by 30.2% while it was found the gap between parents’generation and their son’s in family cooperative behavior by 26.2% in favor of the parents’s generation. This indicates the parents commitment to helping their family members other than son’s generation, which was dominated by individual behavior and self-love and largely abandoned helping their family members
