Abstract

The onion crop is considered one of the important strategic export crops in Egypt, which generates a profitable income for both the farmer and the state, The research mainly aimed to study the economics of onion production in Gharbia Governorate to determine the economic and technological efficiency of using resources in the production of the onion crop. By estimating the total elasticity, it was estimated at about 1.06, which reflects the nature of the increasing return to capacity, and that the producers of this crop produce in the first stage of production stages, which is an uneconomic stage and therefore needs to intensify the use of production elements to reach the economic stage,in general, the value of the total flexibility is close to the correct one, which means a tendency for farmers to reach the economic stage, and by studying the economic efficiency of the resources used in the production of the onion crop, it turns out that the economic ratio between the value of the marginal product and the price The resource unit for each area, phosphate fertilizer units is positive and greater than the correct one, reaching about 3.28, 4.18 for each of them, respectively.
While it was found to be positive and less than one for both automated work and human work, as it was estimated at about 0.31, 0.17, which indicates the high costs of using this resource in the production process and as a result of its economic inefficiency.
