Studying The Quality of Life of Rural Women in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate: Measurement and Determinants

Abstract

This research was aimed at identifying the nature of Rural women's quality of life levels in Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate and its correlates and determinants. The study has assumed that, quality of life is a multidimensional concept, consists of ten subjective dimensions. Each dimension has constructed as a rating scale. Sixteen independent variables were assumed to be the correlates and determinants of the index of women's quality of life. Social survey method was utilized. An interview schedule form was developed. The study has been conducted in three locale units in Riyadh District, Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate,. An area sample was designed. A systematic random sample reached 225 married women was drawn, some statistical techniques were used for data analysis. .
The statistical analyses have showed consistent results in constructing the ten dimensions' scales .Their reliability coefficient were high.Beside, each dimension was correlated significantly with the quality of life composite index. Reliability coefficient (α) of the index was high (0.804). Quality of life index was correlated significantly with twelve independent variables; and determined by nine variables. The nine variables together explained about 57.7 % of the total variance in the quality of life index. These variables were ranked according to their relative importance as follow: status of woman, security against crime and violence, satisfaction with facilities and services, adequacy of income, achievement motivation, living conditions progress, women's work, and family relations. A strong positive causal relationship between the status of women and the quality of life was found, Several recommendations have been stated.
